JOB PURPOSE


The Operations & Maintenance Cost Specialist establishes and updates the maintenance strategy for Caterpillar mining equipment, as well as their operating costs. He defines and builds the contents and costs of basic and improved/optimized maintenance strategies through the integration of add-on systems on equipment.


Most mining customers require this approach to understand the future investment to be made in their operations, and to understand the budget to be deployed in the future.


In addition, this profile is there to understand the current vs. future LCCs, update the strategy regularly with Caterpillar’s help, and identify with the operational side the potential gains to be implemented.


He/she will report to the Mine Efficiency Manager, who will guide him/her by giving him/her the vision of the mining business in West Africa.


MAIN TASK OF THE POSITION 


Build a database of standard maintenance operations (Builder / AMT) to develop the offer


  • Create technical models of standard maintenance operations in Builder and AMT for the entire range of Caterpillar equipment (parts and labor).
  • Monitor and adjust, taking into account feedback, strategy changes and price adjustments
  • Integrate new technologies capable of reducing cost per hour (filtration, fuel, idle time, operations,…)
  • Share feedback within the network: analyze parts lists used compared to standard lists, etc.
  • Customize and finalize Contracts offers with the BUs, ensuring the feasibility and scope of the solution requested by the customer.
  • Calculate and develop costs for standard Contracts solutions in collaboration with the relevant departments (Operations & Maintenance Costs, BU, Finance, etc.).

Financial analysis. Follow supplier recommendations and share feedback within the network.


  • Monitor Caterpillar equipment performance/maintenance indicators (utilization, availability, MTTR, MTBF, component lifetimes, etc.) with the help of the data mining analyst.
  • Set up and monitor a « Machine and component feedback » database with support of Data mining analyst
  • Ensure consistency between the structure of forecast costs and costs recorded in AMT as soon as possible (MSR Project)
  • Analyze CSAs to highlight deviations between forecast and actual (rental department if needed)
  • Report regularly to your n+1
  • Identify corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement of CSA activity.

Support internal customers (Business Units Mines, C&F, E&T / Location / Product Support / Agencies)


  • Define maintenance strategies for a given fleet of machines and plan machine shutdowns
  • Carry out a study of maintenance costs over a given period, for a given machine.
  • Miscellaneous (technical support to the Condition Monitoring department, active participation in mine site audit missions as Maintenance & Repair and Operations specialist and drafting of the relevant part of the audit report, etc.).

Sales and Production


  • Support the development of methods for managing and planning/implementing CSA interventions with a view to a Before Failure approach
  • Define the means to be used to carry out the CSA (manpower and investments)
  • Provide support and training to the Marketing Department and BUs when selling new machines/fleets
  • Conduct field audits on CSA activities and provide training to teams to improve performance
  • Use digital CSA monitoring to optimize LCC models (EMS Tracking Tool, CATINSPECT Inspection Report, Condition monitoring, SOS Analysis Report)

Profil recherché

  • Bac +3, Bac +5  mining/mécanique/ management ou équivalent 
  • +5 year into mining experience
  • Use of Packoffice
  • Presentation skills within power point
  • Languages : english & french, another language as spanish, portugese, chinese would be a plus
  • Open & creative mindset
